Work is beginning on the first Fisher House to serve veterans and their families in Louisiana.
To be located on the New Orleans VA Hospital campus, on South Galvez Street in downtown New Orleans, the house will be a “home away from home” where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.
Working with the Fisher House Foundation, the New Orleans VA Hospital has begun the site planning and engineering phase. The hospital will submit the site preparation design contract for bids by March 15, 2019.
After preparing the site, the VA will hand off the project to the Fisher House Foundation to manage the construction of the nation’s 85th Fisher House. Once construction is complete, the VA Hospital will operate the facility.
